International Coastal Cleanup!! :)

On september 8 2012, our IG members went down to Lim Chu Kang jetty and did our part for the environment and the biodiversity that resides there. All of us were really looking forward to this event and upon reaching there, we managed to clean up a lot actually. We managed to clear plenty of trash, tires, barrel, glass bottles and free horseshoe crabs and crabs. We grouped ourselves in groups of 3 and set out to various parts to clear the waste. Each of us took turns within our groups to note down the waste materials we cleared too. Eventually, although we were in groups, we ended up helping each other as some waste bags were really heavy and thus, required more people's contribution in bringing it over to the collection point. Towards the end, the guys wanted to bring over a very heavy metal barrel to the collection point and it was impossible to carry it with bare hands. So our very creative buddies used ropes to tie the barrel and all the guys together pulled it over to the collection point. That action certainly showed the togetherness and unity :) All in all, all of us had an amazing time there as the satisfaction we got after cleaning up the coastal area was indescribable. :)

All of us gathering at the bus stop before the clean up

Freed from the net but a pity that the male horseshoe crab lost its legs

Finally the crab being freed from the net... with a strand of net still stuck to it

Removing nets...

pick cigarette butts

Hi everyone! On 31st July 2012, a group of 23 students and 11 staffs from Republic Polytechnic went to places surrounding RP to pick cigarette butts. The main purpose of this event was to allow other students to reflect upon their act, if at all they have littered before and most importantly, we as part of Conservation IG wanted to do our part in cleaning up the environment. We hope that by seeing us do this, they reflect and remember to throw it in the bin next time.  The environmental damage is huge, poisoning our food supply, air and water. For their own sake and that of their love ones, do quit smoking. What is the Result? Save money, save health and save the environment. Below is the picture that shows how much cigarettes were collected in an hour!!
